AT&T Code of Conduct
July 14, 2008
Posted by: Sheila

We have received a memo from the District 3 office on the AT&T Code of Conduct.  The company plans to start covering all employees in about a week or so.  District 3 is advising our members not to sign this document.  The company assured us that this AT&T Code of Conduct will be handled the same way the Personal Responsibility Code has been handled in the past.

If the employee is FORCED to sign, sign this document under duress and immediately file a grievance.

District 3 is challenging this document especially due to the 2nd page.

In Unity,

Rhonda Taylor, President

CWA AT&T Mobility Benefits Bargaining Report
July 1, 2008
Posted by: Tony

Yesterday your CWA National Bargaining Committee spent a majority of the day preparing a counter proposal that is very fair to our members and to the Company. It was our intention to reach a new agreement by yesterday's deadline. Unfortunately for our members, the Company returned to the table without the same intention.

During our meeting, the Company reviewed our counter proposal, and then simply stated that they would not have another proposal even though there was still more than five hours left before expiration of the agreement. An hour after both sides left to go home, the Company called and said they had changed their minds; they did have a counter, and asked us to meet at 10:30 p.m.  It would have been great if we could report that this last proposal the Company presented late last night moved...Read More

CWA/AT&T Mobility Benefits Bargaining Report
June 12, 2008

Due to our website being down for a bit we want to appologize for not having this bargaining information available sooner.  As soon as we get these updates, we will post them.  Below are the last three (3) updates given to us:

June 4, 2008

Negotiations opened yesterday in Atlanta, Georgia, with our Bargaining Committee submitting a comprehensive health care proposal to the Company.  District 3 Vice President Noah Savant, speaking on behalf of CWA nationwide, told the Company in opening remarks the Union is hopeful Mobility has come to these negotiations with the intent to reach an agreement that reflects our members' contributions toward making Mobility the number one wireless company in the United States.  At the same time that negotiations began, thousands of CWA members who work at AT&T across the country mobilized to show their support through rallies, informational pickets and by delivering flyers with a message to AT&T management reminding them that when our Bargaining Committee is sitting at this table, they are not sitting alone.  The Company is currently reviewing our proposal and preparing additional relevant data that we have requested.  Bargaining updates will continue to be sent out as there are further developments.

June 5, 2008

On Tuesday, your committee passed a proposal that we believe is fair, equitable and affordable for our membership.  The company's response yesterday was that our proposal would be a 60 percent increase in cost to them. And, instead of backing up their claim with supporting facts and data, they chose to simply pass a proposal that will increase our premiums by up to 540 percent! In addition to that, the Company proposal includes increases in out-of-pocket expenses which could be as much as 1/3 of the annual base wage for the average employees salary! The proposal passed by the company is an insult and shows a total lack of respect for CWA and our membership! It is clear that the new AT&T has no appreciation for the employees who made them the number one wireless company.  Needless to say, we have a long tough battle before us!! The Bargaining Committee thanks everyone for their continued support!

June 11, 2008

The CWA Bargaining Committee met with the Company yesterday inanother intense session of negotiations. In spite of several hours of questioning the Company on some of the data they haveprovided us, we are still not hearing anything that substantiates their claim that the Union's proposal puts an insurmountable financial burden on them. The Union still has many more questions that need to be answered by the Company. Bargaining will resume again today. The Committee appreciates your continued support.

at&t Mobility Kicks off Benefits Bargaining
June 11, 2008
Posted by: Tony

Noah sent this out. Bargaining is in effect for Mobility Benefits Please check back for more updates. All previous and current updates will be posted today.

CWA and AT&T Mobility kicked off bargaining today, June 3rd, on a health care plan that covers Mobility members nationwide. If no agreement is reached at the bargaining table the issue will be presented to an arbitrator for a decision. There is no right to strike because each region has contracts in place that are not expiring.

My message to the Company this morning is that CWA wants to negotiate an agreement and not depend on an arbitrator to determine what health care coverage our members have.

I told AT&T that the Company is successful and profitable and our members play a significant role in that success.

In order to get a settlement the Company must provide an agreement that reflects the contribution our members make to the success of the Company.

The CWA National office will provide updates as bargaining progresses.

In Unity,

Noah

Health Care
May 27, 2008

Did you know that John McCain wants to tax health care benefits?

Al Mumm, President of CWA Local 7290 does. In response to the e-mail I sent last week, Al wrote:

"My Local, CWA 7290, represents Alcatel/Lucent employees and retirees. A family health care plan for our members and retirees costs Alcatel/Lucent around $12,000 a year. McCain's tax credit of $5,000 would leave my members holding the bag for an additional $7,000 from their own pockets!! Plus, under McCain's plan, companies would drop health care in droves. Even with a union contract, good luck getting health care when that contract expires!"

Al's right. Under McCain's plan to fix our health care system, the health care premiums that your employer pays will become part of your taxable income. That means John McCain will create a new tax for people who have health insurance coverage through their employers. A family that benefits from a union-negotiated health care plan worth $15,000 would pay $5,000 in taxes.

Even CWA members with good health care benefits are facing a health care crisis because our employers can't keep up with rising health care costs for members and retirees. But rather than finding a solution that works for both employers and employees, John McCain's plan just offers more of the same broken system.

We want to know: how does the health care crisis affect you?
Would a tax on health care benefits make things better or worse?
Tell us your story:

As Al points out, John McCain's plan will only make things harder for CWA at the bargaining table. His plan doesn't require all employers to pay their fair share, and it doesn't help smaller employers afford good coverage.

CWA wants to find a solution to the health care crisis that improves the quality of care and takes the pressure off employers and employees alike.

Our Health Care campaign is mobilizing members across the country to push for a real political solution to the crisis--and to pass the Employee Free Choice Act to strengthen our bargaining power for health care.

Please visit the Health Care Voices website, tell us your health care story, and sign up to join the campaign for real health care reform:

http://www.unionvoice.org/ct/edzL10p1oqQi/yourstory

America's health care system is already broken, and John McCain's plan will only make it worse for all of us.
